16.3.3. PARTICIPATION IN GOVERNMENT RESEARCH<\/strong><\/p>\n

In the 2025\u20132026 academic year, the Tashkent State University of Oriental Studies significantly expanded its engagement in research activities that contribute to national policy development and innovation. Many university researchers collaborated with government institutions, particularly the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Uzbekistan, by officially registering their intellectual property and software products. These initiatives support national priorities in education, linguistics, psychology, and digital innovation.<\/p>\n

All patents, registered programs, and research outputs of TSUOS are publicly accessible on Tashkent State University of Oriental Studies Institutional Repository <\/strong><\/a>\u2014 an official online platform that provides open access to the university\u2019s research, publications, and innovation results.<\/p>\n

  1. Joint Research with the Center of Islamic Civilization in Uzbekistan<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Tashkent State University of Oriental Studies (TSUOS) is conducting joint research with the Center of Islamic Civilization in Uzbekistan under the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Uzbekistan<\/strong>, a government institution established to promote research, preservation, and public dissemination of Uzbekistan\u2019s Islamic and cultural heritage.<\/p>\n

    Following the visit of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev to the Center on 29 January 2025<\/strong>, and in accordance with the tasks assigned to the Center, 11 TSUOS professors and lecturers have been participating since 1 May 2025 in 15 research and exhibition-development projects<\/strong> aimed at developing the Center\u2019s permanent exhibitions and scholarly resources.<\/p>\n

    The projects cover major areas of Central Asian history, written heritage, literature, language, science, and Islamic civilisation. TSUOS researchers lead and contribute to projects involving the study of ancient writing systems, the Avesta, the Mug Mountain documents, medieval dynasties, Amir Timur, Babur, classical Turkic literature, the Uzbek language, and the scholarly heritage of prominent historical figures.<\/p>\n

    Research Activities and Outputs<\/strong><\/p>\n

    As part of these joint projects, TSUOS academics have undertaken systematic research into rare manuscripts, miniature paintings, archival documents, scholarly publications, museum collections, and other primary and secondary sources<\/strong> relevant to each project. For each project, researchers developed a scholarly concept and prepared research and theoretical materials ranging from 50 to 100 pages<\/strong>, which were submitted to the Center for use in exhibition development and educational activities.<\/p>\n

    The research also involved identifying and documenting significant artefacts held by international museums, libraries, foundations, and digital collections. Researchers compiled lists of rare objects and high-quality images from collections including the British Museum in London, the Hermitage Museum in St Petersburg, the Saint Louis Museum in France, the Khalili Collections, Numista, and museums in Delhi, Hyderabad, and Patna<\/strong>. Recommendations were subsequently developed concerning the creation of replicas and other exhibition materials.<\/p>\n

    TSUOS researchers also compiled media archives<\/strong> by identifying relevant documentary footage, archival videos, and high-quality audiovisual materials available through international archives, YouTube, and other digital platforms. For each project, concepts for 3\u20135-minute educational media products<\/strong> were developed and video materials were prepared for the Center.<\/p>\n

    An important component of the research has been the study and reproduction of manuscripts and miniature paintings preserved in international collections. The project teams provided high-quality manuscript images and facsimile editions, including a facsimile of Mahmud al-Kashgari\u2019s D\u012bw\u0101n Lugh\u0101t al-Turk<\/em><\/strong> based on the manuscript preserved at the Millet Manuscript Library in Istanbul; replicas of manuscripts of ** Kutadgu Bilig<\/em> ** from Namangan, Cairo, and Herat; a replica of Lutfi\u2019s Divan<\/em> preserved in the Library of Istanbul University; and facsimile editions of Hafiz-i Abru\u2019s Jughrafiya-yi Hafiz-i Abru<\/em><\/strong> and Ibn Khaldun\u2019s Al-Ta’rif bi Ibn Khaldun<\/em><\/strong>. These materials were subsequently provided to the Center\u2019s library.<\/p>\n

    TSUOS researchers further contributed to the development of historical and cultural interactive maps<\/strong> relating to the Seljuk and Anushteginid periods and to the distribution of ancient writing systems across the territory of Uzbekistan. In cooperation with the State Unitary Enterprise \u201cCartography\u201d, TSUOS Senior Lecturer Iso Xudoynazarov<\/strong> participated in the development of more than 30 historical and cultural maps and electronic displays<\/strong>, as well as 10 historical and cultural wall maps<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

    Under the leadership of TSUOS Professor Mirsodiq Is\u2019hoqov<\/strong>, researchers also contributed to the Center\u2019s \u201cPre-Islamic Civilisations\u201d<\/strong> section by developing an outdoor installation and an interactive information panel presenting some of the earliest writing systems of Central Asia, including Avestan, Sogdian, Ancient Khwarezmian, Turkic, and Greco-Bactrian scripts<\/strong>, with Unicode-based digital representations.<\/p>\n

    In addition, TSUOS academics prepared bibliographies of scholarly sources in multiple languages<\/strong>, including monographs, dissertations, and research articles, and donated selected personal books by university professors to the Center\u2019s library.<\/p>\n

    The university\u2019s contribution continues beyond the completion of individual research outputs. TSUOS academics provide ongoing scholarly consultation<\/strong> on the naming and content of exhibition labels and on the preparation and verification of exhibition texts in Uzbek, Arabic, Russian, and English<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

    This collaboration represents a direct example of research conducted jointly with a government body<\/strong>, in which the research expertise of TSUOS academics is applied to a national cultural and educational project. The findings and scholarly materials produced through the collaboration are being incorporated into the Center\u2019s exhibitions, library, digital resources, educational materials, and public-facing cultural infrastructure, demonstrating the practical impact of university research on a government-led national initiative.<\/p>\n
