Duties of the Center

 The following are the main tasks of the Center:

— To conduct scientific research aimed at the in-depth study of Japanese culture, history, literature, economy, politics, and the Japanese language, with a focus on enhancing mutual cooperation between the Republic of Uzbekistan and Japan.

— To organize intensive lectures designed to teach the Japanese language at various levels (beginner, intermediate, advanced), covering listening, speaking practice, and reading strategies for university students.

— To offer intensive courses on Japanese language teaching methods and writing scientific research papers. These courses aim to improve the qualifications of the university’s Japanese language teachers and can be conducted online or offline. The living and travel expenses of specialists involved in these training courses are covered by the University of Tsukuba, TSOUS, and other grants.

— To arrange lectures by professors from the University of Tsukuba for students, master’s candidates, doctoral students, and researchers, covering topics related to Japanese language research, current issues in linguistics, prospects for the development of Japanese studies, as well as Japanese literature, translation, and economics. The living and travel expenses of the invited professors are funded by the University of Tsukuba, TSOUS, the Japanese Foundation, and other grants.

— To support short-term student exchange programs. Under the mutual cooperation agreement between TSOUS and the University of Tsukuba, up to five student exchanges per year are planned. These students will not be exempt from tuition fees, so measures will be taken to provide them with scholarships. The center plays a vital role in securing scholarships from various grants in Japan and Uzbekistan, selecting candidates for short-term internships, establishing contacts with relevant organizations, preparing students for the next stages, and assisting in the formulation of scientific research plans. The center also offers similar support to visiting interns from the University of Tsukuba.

— To facilitate the admission of TSOUS graduates and teachers to the University of Tsukuba for long-term internships funded by state grants, thereby enhancing the academic level of local educators.

— To train scientific and pedagogical staff in Japanese studies and collaborate on research projects with local and Japanese partners, including the preparation of scientific articles.

— To promote Japanese and Uzbek languages and cultures in the Central Asian region by conducting comparative studies on the language situation in Japan and Uzbekistan, as well as Japanese and Uzbek cultures, applying the findings to the educational process.

— To develop modern recommendations for the curriculum of courses related to language, literature, history, economics, and political science in the bachelor’s and master’s programs, based on studies of Japanese studies and analysis of leading higher education institutions and research centers in Japan.

— To translate works on Japanese culture, history, literature, economy, politics, and the Japanese language into Uzbek and vice versa, introducing the values and cultural heritage of Uzbekistan to the world.

— To conduct scientific conferences, symposiums, forums, scientific weeks, seminars, and roundtable discussions with partner higher education institutions, research centers, and international organizations in Japan on the development and prospects of Japanese studies.

— To enhance the qualifications of teachers and researchers by organizing scientific seminars, roundtable discussions, and various scientific conferences.

— To publish collections of conference materials with the support of the University of Tsukuba to regularly highlight the center’s research results and activities, as well as publish scientific findings in national and university publications.

— To organize «Fundamentals of Scientific Writing» courses for teachers, doctoral students, and independent researchers engaged in scientific work in the Republic.

— To actively participate in the formation of a new generation of scholars who can research and analyze Japanese culture, history, literature, economy, politics, and the Japanese language.

— To develop startup and innovative projects in collaboration with talented students, master’s candidates, and doctoral students.

— To monitor and ensure the timely completion of research projects in the field of Japanese studies at the university.

— The university conducts research based on the scientific work plan of the center.

— It prepares analytical articles and reports to communicate research results to the public, based on the approved plans of the university and the center.

— It participates in the preparation of educational courses and materials in collaboration with foreign experts.

— It engages in other analytical projects that align with the university’s goals and objectives.

— University professors, students, researchers, master’s candidates, and representatives from scientific institutions, as well as foreign experts and leading Japanese scholars, may be involved in organizing the center’s activities.

— It coordinates graduate theses, master’s and doctoral dissertations, and various research and analytical projects related to Japanese culture, history, literature, economy, politics, and the Japanese language in collaboration with the relevant departments.

— It develops proposals for studying and implementing advanced foreign methodologies for conducting research on Japanese culture, history, literature, economy, politics, and the Japanese language.

— It contributes to the enhancement of cooperative relations between Uzbekistan and Japan by conducting research aimed at an in-depth study of Japanese culture, history, literature, economy, politics, and the Japanese language.

— It prepares materials on various topics and issues relevant to Japanese studies.
