Asian Women’s Forum

On May 13, 2024, the city of Samarkand—where ancient and modern civilizations converge—hosted the Asian Women’s Forum under the theme “A Regional Approach to Expanding Women’s Economic, Social, and Political Rights and Opportunities.” This forum served as an important initiative aimed at strengthening regional cooperation in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 5 – Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls.

Gulchehra Rikhsieva, Rector of Tashkent State University of Oriental Studies (TSUOS), actively participated as a moderator. Additionally, Hulkar Mirzakhmedova, Head of the Department of Iranian-Afghan Philology, contributed to the forum with her academic and theoretical insights, as well as forward-looking proposals.

They accompanied government representatives from the People’s Republic of China and the Islamic Republic of Iran throughout the event. Discussions focused on expanding women’s economic opportunities, ensuring their equal participation in education and the labor market, and enhancing their role in political processes.

The forum served as a significant platform for regional exchange of experience, best practices, and strategic approaches to promote gender equality and advance progress toward achieving SDG 5.
