A New Stage of International Cooperation: Delegation from Tashkent State University of Oriental Studies Visits Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, Ranked 165th in the QS World University Rankings

From May 23 to 26, 2025, a delegation of professors and academic staff from Tashkent State University of Oriental Studies, led by the Director of Institute of Languages and Literature of the Peoples of the East, Doctor of Philology Hulkar Vasilovna Mirzakhmedova, visited Al-Farabi Kazakh National University (Almaty) — one of the leading universities in the region, ranked 165th in the QS World University Rankings.( https://farabi.university/news/96960)

During the visit, the delegation familiarized themselves with the activities of the Department of Japanese Studies and the Faculty of Oriental Studies at KazNU, reviewed educational programs and methodological approaches, and held a series of working meetings and negotiations aimed at developing bilateral cooperation in the fields of Oriental Studies and Japanese Studies.

In particular, the delegation, which included the Head of the Higher School of Japanese Studies at TSUOS, PhD, Associate Professor Nodira Tashmurzaevna Khalmurzaeva, along with senior lecturers Nilufar Talatovna Tursunova, Luiza Nailevna Fatkulina, and Ikumi Ishimura, met with the Head of the Department of Japanese Studies at the host university, Samal Kenesovna Borankulova. The parties exchanged views and experience regarding the development of Japanese Studies and the provision of quality education. Special attention was given to reviewing the curricula and syllabi developed by the host institution. Additionally, existing educational programs in the discipline “Main Eastern Language (Japanese)” at Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, which is listed among the top 300 universities in the QS rankings, were analyzed and brought back for further use.

The delegation also studied the organizational structure of the faculty, language departments, and achievements of Kazakh National University. Opportunities to implement joint educational programs, develop teaching materials, and conduct methodological seminars and professional development courses were discussed.

Of particular interest were KazNU’s initiatives to develop new language programs, such as Pashto, Malay, and Vietnamese. During the negotiations, the parties agreed to launch a joint international project to prepare a Pashto language textbook and publish it at Al-Farabi Kazakh National University.

Furthermore, at the beginning of the 2025–2026 academic year, it is planned to initiate joint activities in the exchange of faculty members teaching Eastern languages, as well as in the training of doctoral students specializing in Japanese Studies.
