On March 31, 2026, international academic lectures were organized at the Faculty of Oriental Civilizations and Philosophy of Tashkent State University of Oriental Studies.

First, visiting scholar Miklós Sárközy, who arrived the Erasmus+ ICM exchange program, delivered a lecture entitled “Ḥudūd al-ʿālam and Its Role in 10th Century Central Asia: Early Classical Persian Geography and Steppe History.”

During the lecture, important issues such as the geographical perceptions of Central Asia in the 10th century, early Persian geographical sources, steppe regions, and their historical development were thoroughly analyzed. Particular attention was paid to the importance of the work “Ḥudūd al-ʿālam” in the study of Central Asian history, including its territorial descriptions and historical-geographical information.

In addition, Alexander Morrison, professor at New College, part of the University of Oxford, delivered a lecture on “The Conquest of Central Asia by Russia in Persian Literature: Interpretations and Assessments.”

In his lecture, Professor Alexander Morrison analyzed the process of the Russian Empire’s conquest of Central Asia based on Persian-language sources and extensively discussed various scholarly interpretations and assessments of this historical event. In particular, he examined how this process was reflected in Persian literature, the differences between local and external perspectives, and the academic significance of historical sources.

Students, master’s students, and faculty members actively participated in the lectures and received detailed answers to their questions. These interactive meetings contributed to strengthening the atmosphere of academic dialogue.
