22.05.2025, 16:22 News 333

The tourism working group of Tashkent State University of Oriental Studies paid a visit to the home of artisan-entrepreneur Bahromjon Gofurov located in Oqtomir neighborhood of Rishton district. This household serves as a living exhibit of ancient and modern Kyrgyz national craftsmanship.

The family of artisan Havokhon Gofurova has been preserving and continuing the traditions of Kyrgyz national handicrafts through generations. The woolen carpets, swaddles, and other household products made from sheep and mountain goat wool are not only aesthetically pleasing but also practically useful. In particular, the hand-woven carpets and prayer rugs are regarded as unique examples representing the ethnocultural heritage of our country. The patterns and color choices used in the weaving process embody ancient styles preserved in this region and reflect the cultural identity of the Fergana Valley.

Currently, new opportunities are being explored to elevate the tourism and cultural potential of Oqtomir village. According to B. Ermatov, a leading specialist from the Fergana Regional Tourism Department, a project is under review to designate the neighborhood as an “Ethno Village,” with implementation planned by the end of the year. This initiative would lay a solid foundation for the development of traditional crafts, the promotion of folk applied arts, and the education of the younger generation. Moreover, it would enable local residents to generate a sustainable income from their craftwork.

During the visit, members of the working group thoroughly studied the ongoing activities at the Gofurova household and developed proposals for integrating traditional crafts with modern ethnotourism. As seen in the example of Oqtomir neighborhood, there is clear potential to preserve local cultural heritage and transform it into a driver of economic development.
