Foreign guests visited Tashkent State University of Oriental Studies
Two staff of Belarusian Institute for Strategic Studies Anton Dudaryonok and Yuri Yarmolinsky visited Tashkent State Institute of Oriental Studies on October 3, 2019. The guests briefed on the activities of Belarusian Research Institute during the meeting with the leadership of Tashkent State Institute of Oriental Studies. In this regard, the rector of the institute G.Rikhsieva informed about the activities of Tashkent State Institute of Oriental Studies and its research centers. The sides discussed matters of further cooperation and held talks on many issues during the meeting. The guests’ visit ended by expressing confidence that the bilateral cooperation will be lasting more and longer.
The State Testing Center’s several staff under the President of the Republic of Turkey visited Tashkent State Institute of Oriental Studies on October 8, 2019. They got acquainted with the work carried out at Tashkent State Institute of Oriental Studies in the field of Turkology during the visit. During the event the rector of Tashkent State Institute of Oriental Studies G.Sh.Rikhsieva briefed on the current development of the field of Turkology at the institute as well as future plans. The guests expressed their deep gratitude for the research in the field of Turkology at the institute and expressed hope for further future cooperation.
The Embassy Consul of Pakistan Islamic Republic in Tashkent Tahir Aziz Chowdhury and Military Attaché Aezaz Aizad Amin visited Tashkent State Institute of Oriental Studies on October 24, 2019. The guests discussed with the leadership of TSIOS about the establishment of cooperation between in the relevant areas of education and specialties of Pakistan prestigious higher education institutions.
In addition, a meeting was held with teachers and students of Urdu studies at the Uzbek-Pakistani Center in TSIOS during the visit. At the end of the meeting both sides expressed their gratitude for the cooperation.
A 9-member creative group of writers and poets from Balkh region of Afghanistan Islamic Republic, led by Mujir Wahab which was organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Writers’ Union of Uzbekistan met with the professors and students of Iranian-Afghan Philology Department in TSIOS on October 24, 2019.
The Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs of Tashkent State Institute of Oriental Studies, Ph.D., Assoc. A.A. Vakhidov opened the event with an introductory speech and expressed his sincere gratitude for the visit. The Chairman of Uzbek-Afghan Friendship Society, Ph.D., Prof. A.A. Mannonov continued the speech. In his speech, the chairman of the society considered that the continuation of friendly relations between Uzbekistan and Afghanistan is in the interests of both countries, visits by the President of Afghanistan to Uzbekistan 4 times recent years, improving relationships as in the field of literature, science and friendship, today’s visit of the distinguished guests had a special meaning, as it coincided with the 30th anniversary of the Uzbek language as the state language. He introduced professors who teach in Dari, Pashto and Persian at Tashkent State Institute of Oriental Studies. Representatives of literature from Afghanistan Islamic Republic shared their views on the current state of Afghan literature, the publication of creative works, emphasizing the commonality of Dari and Uzbek languages. The guests shared their works in Dari and Uzbek languages. Students of the Department of Iranian-Afghan Philology also memorized poems in Dari and Pashto languages. At the end of the event, the guests answered students’ questions in Dari and Pashto in their native language.
On October 26, 2019, Ahmet Karaman, Head of Modern Turkish Dialectics and Literature Department, Afyon Kokatepe University, Republic of Turkey, visited Tashkent State Institute of Oriental Studies. The meeting was attended by the Dean of Oriental Philology Faculty K. Omonov, Head of Turkic Languages Department P. Kenjaeva and Professor Mustafa Karazeybek, Professor of Classical Philology K. Sodikov and Methodist of International Cooperation U. Isroilov. The guest informed about the activities of Modern Turkish Dialectics and Literature Department in Afyon Kokatepe University, including works carried out by the department in the existing Uzbek-Uyghur, Kazakh-Kyrgyz, Turkmen-Azerbaijani, Caucasian languages during the meeting. In this regard, the dean of Tashkent State Institute of Oriental Studies K. Omonov briefed on the activities of the Institute and the Faculty of Oriental Philology, the development of Turkology and works carried out at the Department of Turkic Languages. In the future, it was agreed to discuss issues of cooperation between Tashkent State Institute of Oriental Studies and Afyon Kokatepe University in the field of education and specialties and the meeting ended.
The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of India to the Republic of Uzbekistan Santosh Jha, Director of the L.B.Shastri Cultural Center of the Republic of India in Tashkent Prof. Chandra Shekhar, Deputy Director of the Central Indian Language Institute of the Republic of India Prof. K. Goyanka and Uttar Pradesh Dr. Ravi Tekchandani from the Indian Language University visited Tashkent State Institute of Oriental Studies on October 30, 2019. A short meeting was held with the leadership of Tashkent State Institute of Oriental Studies and Indian guests, led by the Ambassador, at the Rectorate in the first part of the meeting. During the event, the sides discussed issues related to the antiquity and durability of relations between the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Republic of India, raising cooperation in the field of education to a new level. Along with that Indian higher education specialists are invited to teach Indian language and literature, history, culture, philosophy and economics at our institute, as well as to study in Indian higher education institutions to strengthen the knowledge of teachers and students of the institute, some issues such as working on related joint research projects were discussed. A seminar on “Indian language and literature and Mahatma Gandhi” was held at the Center for Hindu Studies named after M. Gandhi at the Department of South and Southeast Asian Languages in the second part of the meeting. Professors K. Goyanka, R. Tekchandani, Prof. Chandra Shekhar spoke at the event and provided students with new information about Mahatma Gandhi and Premchand. Students of the department also made speeches on topics related to the life, social activities and teachings of Mahatma Gandhi. At the end of the seminar, an exhibition of books on Premchand’s works was held at the institute.
A delegation led by the Rector of Nagoya University of Economics, Haruo Saburi, visited Tashkent State Institute of Oriental Studies on November 12, 2019. As part of the visit Haruo Saburi provided information on the activities of the Nagoya University of Economics, the system of employment of graduate students. In this regard, the Vice-Rector for International Cooperation of TSIOS E.Makhmudov informed about the activities of the institute, the development of Japanese studies today, the establishment of “Japanese Studies” Faculty at the institute. During the meeting the sides discussed the implementation of a double degree project between Nagoya University of Economics and TSIOS in the bachelor’s degree in economics, as well as the establishment of cooperation between the universities. At the end of the meeting, representatives of both higher education institutions expressed their gratitude for the meeting. After that, the Japanese delegation got acquainted with Japanese language department and library.
The members of the delegation led by A. Eren, the Chairman of Foreign Turks and Ethnic Societies Office in the Republic of Turkey visited Tashkent State Institute of Oriental Studies on November 12, 2019. During the visit the members of the delegation briefed on the activities of educational grants provided by the Republic of Turkey in order to further expand cooperation. In this regard the rector of TSIOS G. Rikhsieva informed about the current development of the field of Turkology at the institute, the cooperation established with higher education institutions of the Republic of Turkey. During the meeting the chairman of Foreign Turks and Ethnic Societies Office said that there was a desire to establish grants for those who study Turkish language and conduct research in the Republic of Uzbekistan and of course increase their number. At the end of the meeting both sides expressed their gratitude and hope for further development of cooperation.
A group of members from KOICA of the Republic of Korea visited Tashkent State Institute of Oriental Studies on November 20, 2019. The bilateral meeting was opened by Sh.Usmanova, the Dean of the Faculty of Korean Studies. Then the teacher of the faculty A.Minsagitov conducted a seminar-training on the professional development program implemented in cooperation with KOICA. In the second part of the meeting, the staff of the organization informed about the existence of various programs for professional development. At the end of the visit, teachers and students of the faculty, who took part in the meeting, answered questions about these programs and thanked both sides for their cooperation.
The members of the delegation led by Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Korea to the Republic of Uzbekistan Mr.Kang Jae Kwon visited Tashkent State Institute of Oriental Studies on December 3, 2019. In the first part of the visit there was a brief conversation between the rector of the institute and the ambassador, and the rector of the institute G.Sh.Rikhsieva informed about the current development of Korean studies at the institute. Ongoing cooperation issues with Korean higher education institutions were discussed. Then, in the second part of the meeting, they took part in an event on “Korean-Uzbek cultural dialogue, literary dialogue” organized by the Faculty of Korean Studies. With warm impressions from the event, the Ambassador expressed his gratitude for the development and role of Korean studies at the institute.
The members of the delegation led by Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Uzbekistan Yoshinori Fujiyama visited Tashkent State Institute of Oriental Studies on December 4, 2019. The main purpose of the visit was to participate in the official opening ceremony of Japanese Studies Faculty at TSIOS. During the visit talks were held on the study of the Japanese language at the institute. The Ambassador expressed his satisfaction with the meeting, hoping to increase the development of Japanese studies at the institute.
The members of the delegation of Northwestern Minzu University in the People’s Republic of China visited on December 5, 2019. The meeting was opened by the rector of Tashkent State Institute of Oriental Studies G.Sh.Rikhsieva, who spoke about the weight of students studying Chinese today. After that, the staff of Northwestern Minzu University shared the establishment, activities and future plans of the institute. Afterwards, the two sides held talks and exchanged views on the further development of cooperation between TSIOS and Northwestern Minzu University, the establishment of student exchanges. The staff of the visiting higher education institution expressed their gratitude at the meeting and expressed confidence that the cooperation would continue in the future.
Tahir Farrukh, Editor of Ithat Newspaper of Pakistan Islamic Republic, visited the Tashkent State Institute of Oriental Studies on December 23, 2019. He considered that the main purpose of the visit was to participate in the electoral process in the Republic of Uzbekistan. During the visit, he briefed on the educational process at TSIOS and received information about the development of the Urdu language. Vice-rector for international cooperation of the institute E.Makhmudov informed Takhir Farrukh about these issues. At the end of the meeting the editor expressed his satisfaction with the visit and expressed his gratitude.
On January 7, 2020, members of the delegation led by the rector of the University of Kyungdong, Republic of Korea, John Lee visited Tashkent State Institute of Oriental Studies. The main directions of bilateral cooperation over the past period were discussed at the meeting, and promising areas for future cooperation were identified. After the meeting, the Rector of Kyungdong University, John Lee, met with the 1st year students studying at the Faculty of Korean Studies as part of a joint educational program organized by Kyungdong University. Both sides agreed that 9 students studying in the joint program will have a one-month internship at Kyungdong University in the summer of 2020.
On January 14, 2020, the Deputy Head of the Embassy of Arab Republic of Egypt in Uzbekistan Muhammad El Sukkari and the First Secretary of the Embassy Khalid Mohamed Fekri visited Tashkent State Institute of Oriental Studies. At the meeting, the rector of the Institute G. Rikhsieva informed the guests about the history and activities of the institute. In particular, the department of Arabic philology has been working at the institute since 1944, more than 3,000 Arabic scholars have been trained for 76 years, famous academicians, ambassadors, public figures and entrepreneurs have graduated from them.And she reported that today about 600 students in Arabic philology, history, philosophy, economics and world politics are studying Arabic as a primary and secondary language at TSIOS. During the meeting, the sides discussed issues related to the development of cooperation with TSIOS and higher education institutions of Arab Republic of Egypt to a new level and made relevant proposals. In this regard, it was agreed to send students of Arabic studies to Cairo University in Egypt for a short-term internship in Arabic in July-August this year.
On January 21 and 29, 2020, Tetsuro Yamasaka, Chairman of the Board of BALCOM in Hiroshima, Japan, Tetsuhiro Yamasaka, Director of the company, and Takafumi Higashi, Head of BALCOM in Uzbekistan visited the Faculty of Japanese Studies of Tashkent State Institute of Oriental Studies. The official meeting with the members of the company was attended by Vice-Rector for International Cooperation E.Makhmudov, Head of International Cooperation A.Mukhsinov, Dean of the Faculty of Japanese Studies E.Matchanov and Head of the Department of Japanese Philology N.Khalmurzaeva. During the meeting, BALCOM Chairman Tetsuro Yamasaka, not only as the head of the company, but also as a member of the Board of Trustees of Hiroshima University, made proposals on issues of mutually beneficial cooperation. Vice-Rector for International Cooperation E.Makhmudov offered to cooperate in the training of professors and teachers of Hiroshima University and exchange programs. The head of the delegation, Mr. Tetsuro Yamasaka, promised to convey these proposals to the Rector of Hiroshima University and provide practical assistance in the future. Besides that, the company’s management spoke in Japanese with the 4th year students of the Faculty of Japanese Studies in order to invite them to work in the company’s offices in Japan and its representative office in Uzbekistan. At the end of the conversation, BALCOM Chairman Tetsuro Yamasaka acknowledged that the level of Japanese language proficiency of students is much higher than he expected.
On January 30, 2020, members of the Embassy led by the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Indonesia Sunario Cartadina visited Tashkent State Institute of Oriental Studies. At the meeting, the rector of the Institute G. Rikhsieva informed the guests about the history of the institute, its activities and the development of Indonesian studies today. At the same time, the sides exchanged views on the future tasks of the Center for Indonesian Language and Culture, which has been operating at the institute since 2013. During the meeting, the sides discussed issues related to the development of cooperation with TSIOS and Indonesian higher education institutions to a new level and made relevant proposals. In this regard, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Indonesia presented about 150 books as a gift to the Information Resource Center of TSIOS for students studying the Indonesian language.
On January 31, 2020, Mr. Hiroshuke Matsuoka, General Director of the MITSUI’s branches in Nursultan, Astana and Tashkent,Japan visited Tashkent State Institute of Oriental Studies. The meeting was attended by Vice-Rector for International Cooperation E.Makhmudov, Dean of the Faculty of Japanese Studies E.Matchanov, professors and teachers of the Department of Japanese Philology. As a result of the talks with Mr. Hiroshuke Matsuoka, acknowledging the high scientific potential and level of Japanese language skills of the graduates of the Faculty of Japanese Studies, the sides exchanged views on hiring 1-2 graduates to work in Tashkent office of MITSUI. In the future, it was agreed that the representative will participate in roundtables with graduates of this direction and they will assist in updating the material and technical base of the Faculty of Japanese Studies and textbooks on the specialty.
On March 2, 2020, the Embassy of India in Uzbekistan and L.B.Shastri Indian Culture Center gifted a $ 5,500 electronic whiteboard to Mahatma Gandhi Center for Indian Studies under the Department of South and Southeast Asian Languages of TSIOS. This board, which performs computer, television, projector, radio and many other functions, is a very good and convenient practical aid for students to learn Hindi in depth, especially to listen to Hindi live via the Internet and improve pronunciation, learn Indian culture, customs and so on. Professor Chandra Shekhar, Director of L.B. Shastri Indian Cultural Center, visited TSIOS to officially hand over the electronic board. The reception was attended by E. Makhmudov, Vice-Rector for International Cooperation, A. Muhsinov, Head of the Department of International Cooperation, U. Muhibova, Head of the Department of South and Southeast Asian Languages, teachers and students of the department.
On March 9, 2020, the Chairman of the Senate of Baltic International Academy, Professor Stanislav Buka visited Tashkent State Institute of Oriental Studies. At the meeting, the rector of TSIOS G.Rikhsieva informed the guest about the activities and history of the institute. During the meeting, the sides discussed issues related to the development of cooperation with TSIOS and Baltic International Academy to a new level and made relevant proposals. The issue of establishing a joint master’s degree program with TSIOS and Baltic International Academy was discussed at the meeting. At the end of the meeting, Stanislav Buka praised the consistent reforms in higher education in Uzbekistan.
