16.2.2. STUDENTS’ UNION

16.2.2. STUDENTS’ UNION

Tashkent State University of Oriental Studies (TSUOS) formally recognises the Youth Union as the university’s official and independent students’ self-governance body. The Youth Union operates by students and for students, serving as a central platform that assists, supports, and engages students in academic, cultural, and social life at the university.

A clear example of its recognised role in university governance is that the Leader of the Youth Union serves as the 33rd member of the University Academic Council, participating directly in high-level decision-making and ensuring that the student voice is heard at the university’s highest governing body.

The Union also plays an essential role in nurturing student leadership, civic engagement, and social responsibility.

The Youth Union’s executive members are elected annually by the student body, serving a one-year term. Through this democratic process, students elect their representatives to lead initiatives, advocate for their peers, and coordinate university-wide activities.

According to its mandate, the Youth Union engages in:

  • Organising social, cultural, and volunteer events;
  • Supporting educational and creative initiatives;
  • Promoting healthy lifestyles and moral development among youth;
  • Encouraging student participation in national programmes and competitions;
  • Facilitating dialogue between students and university leadership.

The TSUOS youth union team has implemented and is still implementing a number of projects that are useful for university studies and social life:

For the 2024–2025 academic year, Komiljon Suyarov, a student of the Faculty of Economy, Politics and Tourism of the East, was elected as the Union’s leader.

Through the recognition of the Youth Union, TSUOS guarantees students’ independent voice in university governance and reinforces its commitment to democratic participation, equality, and student empowerment.
