Online Lecture at TSUOS with Derya Soysal, Researcher at the Free University of Brussels and Central Asia Specialist

On June 2, 2025, the Department of the History of Central Asian Peoples and the Doctoral Studies Department of Tashkent State University of Oriental Studies (TSUOS) organized an online lecture entitled “The Philosophy of Magtymguly Pyragy and Its Echo Around the World.” The lecture was delivered by Derya Soysal, a researcher at the Free University of Brussels and a specialist in Central Asian studies.

In her presentation, Derya Soysal explored the philosophical dimensions of the works of Magtymguly Pyragy, providing an in-depth analysis of the themes of humanism, freedom, national awakening, and Sufi influences reflected in his writings. She also presented evidence demonstrating that Magtymguly’s literary heritage is studied not only in Turkmenistan but also in Türkiye, Iran, Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan, and even within academic circles in Western Europe.

Following the lecture, participants raised a number of questions. Scholarly discussions focused on translations of Magtymguly’s works, his role in shaping national identity, and the universal human values promoted through his writings.

The online lecture highlighted new perspectives on the place of Central Asian literary heritage within the global academic landscape, particularly the worldwide resonance of Magtymguly’s legacy. The insights presented by Derya Soysal were highly appreciated by the participants and provided a strong foundation for future academic cooperation.
