Main Tasks of the Center
The principal tasks of the Center are as follows:
- To conduct comprehensive academic research on the culture, history, literature, economy, politics, and language of Korea, with particular attention to strengthening cooperation between the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Republic of Korea;
- To train academic and teaching staff specializing in Korean studies and to conduct joint research with local and Korean partners, including the preparation of research projects, dissertations, monographs, and scholarly articles;
- To conduct comparative research on the linguistic situations in Korea and Uzbekistan, the Korean and Uzbek languages, as well as Korean and Uzbek cultures, and to integrate the findings into the educational process, thereby contributing to the international promotion of both languages and cultures;
- To study current developments in Korean studies and analyse the activities of leading universities and research centers in the Republic of Korea, using the findings to develop recommendations for updating undergraduate and graduate curricula in language, literature, history, economics, and political science;
- To translate and publish works on Korean culture, history, literature, economy, politics, and language into Uzbek and, conversely, works relating to the culture, history, literature, economy, politics, and language of Uzbekistan into Korean, thereby promoting the national values and cultural heritage of both countries internationally;
- To organize academic conferences, seminars, and round-table discussions at various levels in cooperation with partner universities, research centers, and international organizations in the Republic of Korea on the development, current state, and future prospects of Korean studies;
- To enhance the professional and academic competence of faculty members and researchers through academic seminars, round-table discussions, and conferences;
- To publish the international academic journal “Korean Studies” four times a year with the support of the Korea Foundation and the Academy of Korean Studies, and to regularly disseminate information on the Center’s activities and research achievements through national and University publications;
- To organize courses on “Fundamentals of Academic Writing” for faculty members, doctoral researchers, and independent researchers engaged in academic research in Uzbekistan;
- To engage leading scholars in Korean studies from Uzbekistan and the Republic of Korea in the academic and research activities of the Center;
- To contribute to the training of a new generation of specialists in Korean studies capable of conducting research and analysis on Korean culture, history, literature, economy, politics, and language;
- To develop start-up and innovative projects jointly with talented undergraduate and graduate students and doctoral researchers, and to organize academic seminars and project presentations in cooperation with leading universities and research centers in the Republic of Korea;
- To monitor and facilitate the timely implementation of research projects conducted at the University in the field of Korean studies.
Functions of the Center
In accordance with its assigned tasks, the Center performs the following functions:
- Conducts research in accordance with the University’s research priorities and the approved work plan of the Center;
- Organizes seminars, round-table discussions, conferences, and other academic events on current issues in Korean studies;
- Prepares analytical articles and research reports based on the approved plans of the University and the Center in order to disseminate research findings to the academic community and the wider public;
- Participates in the development of academic courses and educational materials in cooperation with international specialists;
- Participates in other research and analytical projects consistent with the aims and objectives of the University;
- Engages University faculty members, undergraduate and graduate students, researchers, representatives of government bodies, analytical centers and research institutions, as well as international scholars and specialists, in the activities of the Center;
- Coordinates, in cooperation with relevant academic departments, undergraduate theses, master’s and doctoral dissertations, research projects, and analytical studies relating to Korean culture, history, literature, economy, politics, and language;
- Studies international best practices in research on Korean culture, history, literature, economy, politics, and language and develops proposals for their application in academic research;
- Conducts comprehensive research on Korea and, through its academic activities, contributes to the further development of cooperation between Uzbekistan and the Republic of Korea;
- Prepares scholarly and analytical materials on various fields and current issues of Korean studies.
