Main Tasks of the Center
The principal tasks of the Center are as follows:
- To conduct comprehensive academic research on the scholarly heritage of Mahmud Zamakhshari, as well as linguistic, literary, historical, and philosophical sources in Arabic and Persian, and to promote Uzbekistan’s national values and cultural heritage internationally;
- To undertake scholarly research on the heritage of Mahmud Zamakhshari, ancient written monuments, and manuscripts; to train academic and teaching staff in this field; and to conduct joint research with local and international partners;
- To organize systematic research aimed at identifying, collecting, preserving, and transmitting to future generations original and digital copies of manuscripts, lithographic editions, and other materials of significant scholarly value relating to the contributions of Mahmud Zamakhshari and other eminent scholars to Arabic linguistics, preserved in libraries and archival collections in Uzbekistan and abroad;
- To strengthen international academic cooperation in studying the history of linguistics and its contemporary significance by organizing conferences, symposia, exhibitions, scholarly lectures, seminars, training programmes, competitions, and other academic, cultural, and educational events devoted to theoretical and methodological issues;
- To prepare textbooks and teaching manuals, encyclopedias, catalogues, albums, scholarly and popular documentary films, and information-resource databases based on research findings, and to disseminate them through mass media and digital platforms, including the Internet;
- To develop recommendations for integrating the content and scholarly significance of written monuments into language- and literature-related undergraduate and graduate curricula on the basis of linguistic research and scholarly analysis of manuscripts;
- To enhance the professional and academic competence of faculty members and researchers through seminars, round-table discussions, and academic conferences devoted to written heritage and manuscript studies;
- To monitor and facilitate the timely implementation of University research projects devoted to written monuments and their study within the framework of state-funded research programmes;
- To regularly publish information on the Center’s activities and its research achievements in national and University publications;
- To initiate and support the translation into Uzbek of major scholarly works devoted to the written heritage of Uzbekistan’s ancestors;
- To engage leading Oriental studies scholars from Uzbekistan and abroad specializing in written heritage and manuscript studies in the activities of the Center;
- To contribute to the training of a new generation of Oriental studies specialists capable of conducting research and critical analysis of the scholarly heritage of Mahmud Zamakhshari and other eminent scholars, as well as linguistic and literary sources in Oriental languages;
- To develop start-up and innovative projects jointly with talented undergraduate and graduate students and doctoral researchers, establish close cooperation with research institutions of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Uzbekistan, and organize academic seminars and project presentations.
Functions of the Center
In accordance with its assigned tasks, the Center performs the following functions:
- Conducts research in accordance with the University’s research priorities and the approved work plan of the Center;
- Organizes seminars, round-table discussions, conferences, and other academic events on current issues in linguistics;
- Prepares analytical articles and research reports based on the approved plans of the University and the Center in order to disseminate research findings to the academic community and the wider public;
- Participates in the development of academic courses and educational materials in cooperation with international specialists;
- Participates in other research and analytical projects consistent with the aims and objectives of the University;
- Engages University faculty members, undergraduate and graduate students, researchers, representatives of government bodies, analytical centers and research institutions, as well as international scholars and specialists, in the activities of the Center;
- Studies advanced international experience in research on the culture, languages, and literature of Eastern peoples, as well as textual studies and literary source studies, and develops proposals for its application;
- Conducts in-depth research on sources relating to the culture, languages, and literature of Eastern peoples and promotes Uzbekistan’s national values and cultural heritage internationally;
- Prepares scholarly and analytical materials in various fields of Arabic linguistics, textual studies, and literary source studies.
