Rector’s Speech at the International Conference. “Oriental Studies in Uzbekistan: Historical Opportunities and Tasks”
On May 5, 2026, within the framework of the international conference titled “Scientific Tradition in Islamic Civilization: Sources, Opportunities and Current Issues” held at the Center of Islamic Civilization of Uzbekistan, TSUOS Rector Gulchehra Rikhsiyeva delivered a speech.

In her presentation, the Rector spoke about the historical roots of Oriental Studies in Uzbekistan and its current stages of development. She also described the historical path from the establishment of the Turkestan Oriental Institute in Tashkent in 1918 to the creation of Tashkent State University of Oriental Studies in 2020.

The Rector noted that today the university cooperates with more than 150 foreign universities, implements international joint educational programs, and actively conducts the digitization of Eastern manuscripts as well as extensive scientific research activities.

She also emphasized that the university’s graduates are successfully working in the fields of diplomacy, science, and culture around the world.

At the end of her speech, Gulchehra Rikhsiyeva stressed that the main goal of modern Oriental Studies is to deepen knowledge about Eastern countries and use this knowledge for the development of society.
