Representatives of TSUOS Deliver Presentations at the 13th International “21st Century Human Values Forum” in the Republic of Korea
The 13th International “21st Century Human Values Forum 2026” is being held from 29 to 31 October 2026 at the Andong International Convention Centre (ADCO), located in the city of Andong, North Gyeongsang Province, Republic of Korea.
Dedicated to the theme “A World in Flux: What Endures”, the international forum focuses on discussing pressing issues related to the role of human values in the modern world, intercultural dialogue, historical memory, social development and international cooperation.
The forum serves as a prestigious international platform for academic dialogue, aimed at re-examining the importance of humanity, spiritual heritage and universal values amid the technological, social and cultural transformations taking place across the world. It also provides an opportunity to seek solutions to the challenges facing contemporary societies through humanitarian approaches.
The official programme features academic sessions addressing artificial intelligence and the human factor, environmental changes and urban sustainability, the preservation of cultural heritage, demographic processes, the shared historical memory of East Asian countries, and cultural ties among young people.
As part of the international forum, a special academic session entitled “Beyond Borders: Rethinking the Future of Asian Humanities” was held on 29 October 2026.
The session brought together researchers from the Republic of Korea and Uzbekistan on a shared academic platform. It focused on the comparative study of the historical and cultural heritage of the two countries, understanding their shared historical memory, and identifying new avenues for academic cooperation in the humanities.
Representatives of Tashkent State University of Oriental Studies — A. Shukurov, D. Sayfullayev and Sh. Salimov — participated in the session as speakers.
The Republic of Korea was represented by professors Kim Semin and Sung Jong Hyun, who also delivered presentations. Professor Tae Jiho of Kyongkuk National University moderated the session, while Yeon Sangheum, Head of the Higher School of Korean Studies at TSUOS, served as its chair.
During the discussions, particular attention was paid to the following priority areas that historically, culturally and civilizationally connect the Republic of Korea and Uzbekistan.
The concept of the session recognised Central Asia as a region that has historically connected Eastern and Western civilizations, brought peoples and cultures together through the Great Silk Road, and continues to possess significant potential for international cooperation today.
From this perspective, key topics of the session included linking historical relations with contemporary academic cooperation, conducting in-depth studies of shared cultural memory, and promoting academic exchange.
It should be noted that the main significance of the 13th International “21st Century Human Values Forum” lies in exploring universal human values from the perspectives of different countries and academic schools, discussing contemporary challenges in the humanities, and strengthening international scientific cooperation.
In particular, the joint participation of researchers from the Republic of Korea and Uzbekistan in a dedicated academic session is important in enriching the historical and cultural ties between the two countries with new areas of academic cooperation. The topics discussed during the session will provide a relevant academic foundation for joint research projects, academic and scientific exchanges, comparative studies of cultural heritage, and the development of a sustainable Korea–Uzbekistan humanitarian cooperation network.
