Prospects for Engaging a Harvard University Lecturer at TSUOS Discussed
Tashkent State University of Oriental Studies (TSUOS) continues to consistently develop international dimensions of its educational and research activities, as well as to engage highly qualified professors, lecturers, and scholars from leading foreign higher education institutions in the university’s academic activities.
As part of these efforts, an online meeting was held with Dr. Yue Xie, a PhD holder from Harvard University, to discuss opportunities for conducting academic activities at TSUOS. During the meeting, detailed information was provided on the university’s international cooperation priorities, existing academic programs, research activities, and mechanisms for involving foreign specialists in the educational process.
The discussion placed particular emphasis on Dr. Yue Xie’s research in the history, art, and architecture of Central Asia, as well as his studies of the region’s historical and cultural heritage and architectural monuments. It was noted that his academic expertise in these areas closely aligns with TSUOS’s fields of Oriental studies, regional studies, history, culture, and art.
One of the key aspects of the meeting was Dr. Yue Xie’s expressed interest in teaching classes and special courses on the history of Central Asia for TSUOS students. In particular, the participants exchanged views on opportunities to provide students with education based on contemporary academic approaches to the political, socio-cultural, and architectural history of Central Asia, its historical and cultural heritage, and the region’s role in the development of world civilization.
The parties also discussed the possibility of Dr. Yue Xie participating, alongside his teaching activities, in research projects at the university focused on the history and cultural heritage of Central Asia; conducting joint research with TSUOS faculty members; preparing articles for international academic publications; and participating in academic seminars and conferences.
The participants noted that engaging a foreign professor in the academic environment of TSUOS would not only enrich the international dimension of the educational process but also create important opportunities to advance research on the history, culture, and architecture of Central Asia through new methodological approaches.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the parties agreed to identify the educational and research areas in which Dr. Yue Xie could contribute at TSUOS, discuss the content of relevant courses and special programs with the appropriate academic departments, and consider organizational matters related to future cooperation.
This initiative represents another practical example of TSUOS’s efforts to expand international academic relations, engage professors and scholars from leading foreign universities in educational and research activities, provide students with education based on international academic experience, and further strengthen the university’s research capacity.
