Delegation of Shanghai University Led by Vice President Guo Yannan Visits Tashkent State University of Oriental Studies
A delegation from Shanghai University, led by Vice President Guo Yannan, visited Tashkent State University of Oriental Studies.
As part of the visit, a meeting was held between the leadership of Tashkent State University of Oriental Studies and the delegation of Shanghai University. The meeting focused on the current state and prospects of cooperation between the two higher education institutions, further strengthening existing ties, identifying new areas of cooperation, and implementing joint educational and research projects.
During the meeting, particular attention was given to the presence of a bust of the great thinker, statesman and public figure Alisher Navoi at Shanghai University, as well as the university community’s high regard for his rich literary and scholarly heritage. It was also noted that Professor Jiang Danhua of Shanghai University was awarded the Alisher Navoi Prize and had taught students at Tashkent State University of Oriental Studies, which was highlighted as one of the important achievements of bilateral cooperation.
During the meeting, Shanghai University put forward the following proposals for further developing cooperation:
- Within the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative, implement research and other promising projects and expand mutual cooperation;
- Translate the works of Alisher Navoi into Chinese, further promote his literary and scholarly heritage in China, and implement joint research projects in this area;
- Expand cooperation in education and research in the fields of management and economics.
In turn, representatives of Tashkent State University of Oriental Studies put forward a number of proposals aimed at further developing cooperation between the two universities in the areas of education, research and academic mobility:
- Publish Chinese translations of Alisher Navoi’s works at Shanghai University, develop such publications into one of the key projects of academic and educational cooperation, and further promote Alisher Navoi’s literary heritage in China;
- Launch joint educational programmes in economics and management, creating new academic opportunities for students;
- Engage faculty members from Shanghai University in teaching activities at Tashkent State University of Oriental Studies, particularly by arranging for them to teach the course “Fundamentals of Entrepreneurship”, as well as establishing student mobility programmes;
- Expand the activities of the “Creative Writing” Centre, established through cooperation between Tashkent State University of Oriental Studies and Shanghai University, strengthen collaboration within the framework of the Centre, and implement new joint projects in the field of international relations;
- Expand cooperation within summer school programmes, invite representatives of Shanghai University to participate in the summer school organised by Tashkent State University of Oriental Studies, and increase the quota for TDSHU students participating in the summer school at Shanghai University from 4 to 10 students.
At the conclusion of the visit, both sides expressed their readiness to elevate mutually beneficial cooperation to a new level, expand academic and faculty exchanges, consistently implement promising joint projects, and further strengthen long-term cooperation between the two universities.
The representatives of Shanghai University were also invited to the International Uzbekistan–China Forum, which will be held on 7 November. The forum is expected to provide an additional platform for further developing bilateral relations and discussing new areas of cooperation.
