Strengthening cooperation with foreign countries of the East is an important factor in the further development of oriental studies in Uzbekistan
On April 16, 2020, the Resolution of the President of Uzbekistan Mirziyoyev Sh.M. on the formation of Tashkent State University of Oriental Studies. In the current difficult conditions that the world has faced, in the context of the struggle for economic growth, unprecedented scientific and technological progress on the one hand, and deepening contradictions, global and regional crises, a global pandemic on the other, which can exacerbate the socio-economic situation in each country and in the world as a whole, it is very important, in spite of any difficulties, to follow and maintain a strategic course for the further development of the economy, the development of science and education. Therefore, this Decree is in demand, it has lasting significance. The Decree emphasizes that the University is granted the right to develop educational standards, qualifications, curricula and programs, taking into account international experience. In addition, it is important to note that curricula and subject programs are approved independently by agreement with foreign partners. Oriental studies in Uzbekistan have deep roots and traditions that go back centuries to the history of our country. These traditions were laid down by our great ancestors, who, along with state activities, always paid attention to science and education. Al-Khwarizmi, Al-Beruni, Amir Timur, M. Babur and many others made an invaluable contribution to the development of oriental studies in Uzbekistan. According to international experts, in modern conditions, the center of development of the world economy and politics is increasingly shifting to the East. Suffice it to say that such leading countries of the East as China, India, Japan, South Korea, Indonesia, Saudi Arabia, Turkey produce over almost 30 % Of the world’s GDP, and if you take the first twenty economically most powerful countries in the world, then about 40%. The resolution actualizes the importance of studying the laws and specifics of the countries of the East, draws attention to the need to strengthen the scientific, educational, economic ties of Uzbekistan with the countries of the East. Nowadays, the Tashkent State Institute of Oriental Studies is engaged in the training of personnel from the field of philology, philosophy, economics, politics, history of the countries of the Foreign East. A mandatory requirement, along with mastering a specialty, for example, for economists and political scientists is knowledge of two foreign languages – one eastern and one Western. This distinguishes our graduates who, along with the specialty, acquire knowledge of at least 2 languages. Oriental studies is an area of education and science, which requires painstaking, tireless work, knowledge, patience, and qualification. The achievement of political independence in 1991 opened up new opportunities in the field of Eastern education. The development of oriental studies was accompanied by the discovery of new specialties and directions, consonant not only with our rich past, but also with the trends of our time. In 1991, the Tashkent State Institute of Oriental Studies was established on the basis of the Faculty of Oriental Studies of Tashkent State University. A historical and economic faculty was created in the structure of the institute, which was subsequently divided into economic and historical faculties. The main goal of these faculties was to train personnel in economics, politics, history, and international relations with the countries of the East. A lot of government and public figures have been educated at the Institute, who have made and are making a big and recognized contribution to the socio-economic development of Uzbekistan. Now graduates of the institute are in demand not only in our country, but also successfully work abroad.
