HIGH SCHOOL OF TURKISH STUDY

In the period of independence, completely new tasks and new goals were set before the field of scientific education, and the team of Tashkent State University of Oriental Studies is working together to fulfill these tasks and achieve the goals. First of all, oriental scientists and researchers were given the task of studying, restoring and conveying our national spiritual heritage to the general public. In the next step, the task of training Oriental experts who are well-versed in the language and cultural social life, economic and political processes, customs, and traditions of the neighboring countries of the East, who are able to translate interstate economic and legal documents, was set. The Department of Turkish Philology was first established in 1990 under the name of Altaic Studies. Since 1991, the department has been named after Turkic languages. In 2020, the name of the department was changed to Turkish Philology. Uighur, Turkish, Korean, and Japanese languages are taught at the Department of Altai Studies. Later, these areas became independent: Turkish philology, Uighur studies. Today, the department of Turkic philology is a leading center in the field of Turkic studies and conducting scientific research in our country. Academician A. Rustamov headed the department for many years. Since 1999, Ph.D., prof. Q. Sodikov, later Ph.D., prof. Q. Omonov, Ph.D., Assoc. J. Shabanov, PhD, prof. Z. Khudoyberganova and Ph.D., Assoc. U. Lafasov presided. Since 2019, the head of the department has been Ph.D., Assoc. While P. Kenjayeva worked, from September 2022 to February 2023, J. Shabanov worked as a temporary head of the department. M. Aripov has been working since March 2023 until now. Education in the higher school is carried out in two directions – at the bachelor’s and master’s levels. At the first stage, bachelor specialists are trained in the field of Turkish philology (Turkish language and literature). In addition to the department of Turkish philology, professors and teachers of the Higher School of Turkic Studies also teach classical oriental philology, oriental philosophy, history of foreign countries, history of Central Asian peoples, world politics and economy of foreign countries. Another aspect of the educational activities of the Higher School of Turkic Studies is linguistics (introduction to linguistics and general linguistics), which are common to the philology (oriental languages) departments of the university. Teaching the Uyghur language is one of the educational directions of the department. The Uighur language is taught as an additional oriental language in the departments of Turkish philology and Chinese philology. At the same time, the Azerbaijani cultural center operates in the higher school, and the Azerbaijani language is also taught as an additional eastern language.
