Main Tasks of the Center

The principal tasks of the Center are as follows:

Research Activities

  • To conduct academic research on the history and stages of development of the literatures of the peoples of India, particularly Hindi, Urdu, Tamil, and Bengali literature;
  • To study the theoretical approaches and scholarly perspectives of Indian specialists in literary studies and linguistics;
  • To conduct comprehensive research on the culture, history, literature, economy, politics, and languages of India, with particular attention to strengthening bilateral cooperation between the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Republic of India;
  • To train academic and teaching staff specializing in Hindi and to conduct joint research with local and Indian partners, including the preparation of research projects, dissertations, monographs, and scholarly articles;
  • To conduct comparative research on the linguistic situations in India and Uzbekistan, the Hindi and Uzbek languages, as well as Indian and Uzbek literature and culture, and to integrate research findings into the educational process;
  • To study current developments in Indian studies and analyse the activities of leading universities and research centers in India, using the results to develop recommendations for updating undergraduate and graduate curricula in language, literature, history, economics, and political science;
  • To translate and publish works on Indian culture, history, literature, economy, politics, and the Hindi language into Uzbek and, conversely, works relating to the culture, history, literature, economy, and politics of Uzbekistan into Hindi, thereby promoting the national values and cultural heritage of both countries;
  • To organize academic conferences, seminars, and round-table discussions at various levels in cooperation with partner universities, research centers, and international organizations in India on the development, current state, and prospects of Indian studies;
  • To enhance the professional and academic competence of faculty members and researchers through academic seminars, round-table discussions, and conferences;
  • To regularly disseminate information on the Center’s activities and research findings through international academic publications, particularly journals indexed in Scopus and Web of Science, as well as national and University publications;
  • To organize courses on “Fundamentals of Academic Writing” for faculty members, doctoral researchers, and independent researchers engaged in academic research in Uzbekistan;
  • To engage leading scholars in Indian studies from Uzbekistan and India in the academic and research activities of the Center;
  • To contribute to the training of a new generation of specialists in Indian studies capable of conducting research and analysis on Indian culture, history, literature, economy, politics, and the Hindi language;
  • To develop start-up and innovative projects jointly with talented undergraduate and graduate students and doctoral researchers, and to organize academic seminars and project presentations in cooperation with leading universities and research centers in India;
  • To monitor and facilitate the timely implementation of research projects conducted at the University in the field of Indian studies.

Academic and Educational Activities

  • To prepare educational and methodological literature for undergraduate and graduate programmes on the Hindi language and literature and their historical development, including teaching manuals, textbooks, study guides, and anthologies, and to discuss and recommend these materials for publication through the Center;
  • To expand and improve the use of international academic literature in the preparation of educational materials;
  • To involve international specialists in the preparation and development of teaching and learning materials.

Organizational Activities

  • To organize online and in-person academic seminars, round-table discussions, meetings, and international and national scientific and practical conferences in cooperation with the Lal Bahadur Shastri Centre for Indian Culture in Tashkent and specialists from India, thereby contributing to the professional development of faculty members and young researchers;
  • To translate selected works of contemporary Indian literature into Uzbek and outstanding works of Uzbek literature into Hindi in cooperation with the University’s Hindi language specialists, and to facilitate their publication;
  • To organize academic conferences for undergraduate and graduate students specializing in Hindi linguistics and literary studies and to publish selected student papers in scholarly collections;
  • To facilitate the approval and discussion of research topics of doctoral candidates, PhD candidates, independent researchers, and other researchers specializing in 10.00.05 – Languages and Literatures of the Peoples of Asia and Africa and 10.00.06 – Comparative Literary Studies, Contrastive Linguistics and Translation Studies, including chapter-by-chapter discussion of dissertations and academic preparation for their defence;
  • To regularly publish information on the Center’s activities and its research achievements in national and University publications.

Functions of the Center

In accordance with its assigned tasks, the Center performs the following functions:

  • Organizes seminars, round-table discussions, conferences, and other academic events on current issues in Indian studies;
  • Prepares analytical articles and research reports based on the approved plans of the University and the Center in order to disseminate research findings to the academic community and the wider public;
  • Participates in the development of academic courses and educational materials in cooperation with specialists from India;
  • Participates in other research and analytical projects consistent with the aims and objectives of the University;
  • Engages University faculty members, undergraduate and graduate students, researchers, representatives of government bodies, analytical centers and research institutions, as well as international scholars and specialists, in the activities of the Center;
  • Coordinates, in cooperation with relevant academic departments, undergraduate theses, master’s and doctoral dissertations, research projects, and analytical studies relating to Indian culture, history, literature, economy, politics, and languages;
  • Studies international best practices in research on Indian culture, history, literature, economy, politics, and languages and develops proposals for their application in academic research;
  • Conducts comprehensive research on India and, through its academic activities, contributes to the further development of cooperation between Uzbekistan and India;
  • Prepares scholarly and analytical materials on various fields and current issues of Indian studies.
