As a result of the state visit of the president of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Miromonovich Mirziyoyev to the Republic of Korea in November 2017, “Road maps” have been developed in all spheres aimed at further development of bilateral relations with Korea. The need for highly qualified Korean specialists in the socio-humanitarian and economic spheres for the implementation of the tasks set out in them was further increased in our republic. This, in turn, requires the training of highly qualified Korean specialists who have deep knowledge in the field of Korean history, culture, policy and economy and are able to communicate freely in Korean on the basis of the introduction of advanced foreign educational methods. As a result of this, with the consent of the Ministry of Higher and secondary special education of the Republic of Uzbekistan on July 2, 2018, the Korean faculty was established.

The Korean faculty is not only the exclusive faculty in Uzbekistan, but also the only faculty in Asia, and in this department, along with the training of philologists and translators, who have a general background in the field of Korean Studies, highly qualified specialists who make a great contribution to the development of economic, political, scientific and cultural relations between Korea and Uzbekistan.

Currently, 563 students, 14 Masters and 4 doctoral students are studying at the faculty. There are 32 professors and teachers with scientific and academic potential in the faculty. 8 of them are Korean professors and teachers.   There are 5 doctors of Science and 4 candidates of science at the faculty.

       The history of the Faculty. The faculty has departments like Korean philology and Korean history, culture, politics and economy.

       The department of Korean philology. Today, the Department of Korean philology is a center for training philologists-Korean specialists of a wide range. Education is carried out in two stages – Bachelor’s and master’s degrees. Department prepares students for The Bachelor’s degree in philology and Language Teaching (Eastern Languages). At the master’s level, it trains specialists in the spheres “Linguistics” (Korean) and “Literary Studies” (Korean literature). At the same time, teachers conduct lectures and practical hours on the history of foreign countries, Eastern philosophy, economy of Far Eastern countries and country studies. There are 15 professors and teachers. 5 foreign specialists from the Republic of Korea also provide training.

       The following subjects are taught at The Bachelor’s degree and master’s degree in Korean philology: The main oriental language (1-4 courses), The main oriental language (Korean) practical phonetics (selective subjective), The main oriental language (Korean) writing structure  (selective subjective), The introduction to the Oriental studies, Literature of the country of the studied language (Korea) (2-4-courses), Main oriental language (Korean) the introduction to the philology (selective subject), Main oriental language (Korean)  lexicology (selective subject), Intercultural communication  (2, 4 courses) (selective subject), Additional oriental language  (Korean) (2-4-courses), The methodology of teaching oriental languages, Simultaneous translation, Theoretical grammar of the main oriental languages, Literary trends in the literature of the Eastern nations (selective subject)

       Department of “History, culture, policy and economy of Korea”.

In 2018, the Department of “Economy and policy of Korea”, consisting of 7 staff units, separated from the Department of “Economy and regional studies of the Pacific and Southeast Asia”. In 2020, the activities of the center were included into the “History, Culture, Policy and Economy of Korea”, which includes 18 staff units, taking into account the merger with the Department of” history and culture of Korea”.

Education is carried out in two stages – Bachelor’s and master’s degrees. The following subjects are taught in The Bachelor’s degree: Korean history, Korean political culture, Korean economy, economic geography of the region under study, Korean banking and financial system, Korean language, Political Science, World Politics, Political Analysis, geopolitics, world politics and theory of international relations, economic diplomacy, etc.

At the master’s stage, the following subjects are taught: socio-economic policy of the countries studied languages, scientific-technical and innovation policy of the countries of the region studied language, international rating systems of the countries of the region studied language, etc.

Joint educational program.

Since September 2019, the joint education program has been implemented on the basis of 5120100-philology and language teaching (Korean language and culture) direction with Sangmyong University of the Republic of Korea and 5120100 – philology and language teaching (Korean) direction with Kyongdong University on the basis of 2+2 program. Currently, 19 students are studying on the basis of this program. Four Korean professors and teachers are involved in the educational process.

       The following subjects are taught in the Joint Education Program: Korean language (the second year), Korean literature, The introduction to the literature, Reading and practicum of classical Korean literature,  Lexicology of Korean language, Theoretical grammar of Korean language, Theory of teaching pronunciation in Korean language, Teaching theory of expression of thought in Korean, Introduction to the Korean philology, Sociolinguistics, Introduction to the linguistics

       Graduates of the faculty: The graduates of the Korean faculty successfully work in state institutions and commercial organizations, which have a wide range of Korean language users and have contacts with foreign countries. Graduates of the faculty will join the ranks of businessmen and entrepreneurs, consultants and experts on Korean economy and policy. Among them are employees in the field of diplomacy, heads of firms, representatives of trade, managers in tourism and hotel business, employees in many Korean enterprises operating in the Republic of Uzbekistan, guide-translator, teachers and scientific workers in higher and secondary special educational institutions, customs and tax advisor, singers.

As a result of comprehensive training, graduates of the Korean faculty successfully enter the master’s programs in the leading universities of the Republic of Korea and other prestigious foreign educational institutions in Korean language and literature, Korean history, Korean policy, Korean economy and legal specialties. After the master’s degree, they study at the doctorate.
