Lectures and master classes of a scientist from St. Petersburg at the Tashkent State Institute of Oriental Studies
By ther invitation of TSIOS, the head of the Oriental Department of the State Hermitage Museum, well-known orientalist, archeologist, linguist-sogdologist Pavel Borisovich Lurie visited Tashkent State institute of Oriental Studies. His lectures, conversations and master classes aroused interest among students, doctoral candidates and teaching staff of the university.
As a broad-scoped specialist P. B. Lurie gave a detailed information about the Hermitage and about the activities of scientific departments of this world-famous treasury of the world culture. Besides that, P.B.Lurie made speech on the results of the last years of the Penjikent archaeological expedition of the State Hermitage Museum, which was led by the famous scientist A. Y. Yakubovsky in 1946 and continuously operating until now. The reports of P.Lurie about new explorations in the field of Sogdology, Khorezm study and Archeology, the historical geography of the region, the ethno-cultural relations of the peoples of Central Asia, and historical source study were very interesting.
