11.02.2023, 19:18 News 773

In accordance with the Resolution of the UN General Assembly dated December 22, 2015, February 11 was adopted as “International Women’s Day in Science”. The celebration of “International Women’s Day in Science” on February 11, which is widely promoted by UNESCO, is aimed at encouraging women and girls in the field of science. This date is another opportunity to promote the full and equal access and participation of women and girls in science. Science and gender equality are crucial to achieving sustainable development.

However, women and girls are still relatively excluded from participation in science: worldwide, the proportion of women in science is less than 30%. Solving their biggest sustainable development challenges – from improving health to combating climate change – relies on mature scientific talent. Therefore, it is of particular importance to attract more women to the fields of science. Diversity of research expands the ranks of talented researchers, brings new perspectives, talent and creativity. This day, which is celebrated every year on February 11, was adopted by the United Nations General Assembly in order to ensure full and equal use of science by women and girls. This date is a reminder that women and girls play an important role in science and education and that their participation should be strengthened. In connection with this date, on February 11, 2023, the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Innovation, the Ministry of School and Pre-School Education, the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the Women’s Committee of Uzbekistan, the President of the Republic named after Abdulla Qadiri School, the Youth Affairs Agency of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Tashkent State University of Oriental Studies organized the III international conference”Women in sustainable development: science and quality education” .
