The University must deserve its title
Uzbekistan’s relations with the East are developing. Therefore, it is important to train highly qualified specialists who have an in-depth knowledge of oriental languages and an in-depth knowledge of the history and culture, politics, economics, religion and philosophy of this country.
The establishment of the Tashkent State Institute of Oriental Studies in 1991 contributed to the development of this field and the expansion of a number of scientific and educational areas.
At present, the university aims to train national staff in various fields of modern oriental studies in seven areas of study and 12 master’s specialties.
And how were the activities in real life?
There were problems in the field of training specialists with higher education in accordance with international standards, continuous training of scientific and pedagogical potential, targeted training, development of teaching and information support in the educational process, updating the material and technical base.
The resolution of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan dated April 16 this year “On measures to radically improve the training system in the field of oriental studies and increase scientific capacity” will radically improve the quality of training of qualified personnel in the field.
Special attention is now being paid to the training of orientalists who have mastered at least two foreign languages and have been trained on a fundamental basis.

Along with the training of highly qualified personnel in Oriental studies, it is planned to accelerate the development of science, continuously increase the scientific potential and pedagogical skills of teachers, improve the education of students on the basis of oriental values.
This document serves to radically improve the quality of the system of training highly qualified personnel in the field of Oriental Studies. The State University of Oriental Studies in Tashkent has defined development objectives in the fields of teaching, research, innovation, education and international cooperation. The educational process is based on a step-by-step credit-module system. Continuous retraining and advanced training courses are organized for teachers. Oriental language colleges have been opened in Namangan and Khiva, a Simultaneous Translation Laboratory and a Multimedia Center have been set up, and telecommunications equipment and infrastructure for online lectures and distance learning have been provided. It should be noted that this resolution pays special attention to the development of scientific activity, scientific potential of the university, training of orientalists, further expansion of scientific research. In this regard, a number of targeted measures are planned. In particular, it is planned to gradually increase the scientific potential of the university to 55% by 2023, to increase the quota for admission to doctoral studies at the university to 20, to organize training of highly qualified scientific and scientific-pedagogical staff in new specialties.
It is noteworthy that the University has a Research Center for the Study of Oriental Culture and Heritage and a Research Center for the Development of Oriental Studies.
The task of the Research Center for the Study of Oriental Culture and Heritage is to conduct a comprehensive study of the culture of the peoples of the East, literary, historical and philosophical sources in the Oriental languages and to promote the values of our country and national cultural heritage.
In general, the decision to grant university status to our institution will create opportunities for Orientalists to further develop foreign educational and scientific cooperation with the world’s leading universities, to coordinate differences in the systems of mutual recognition and evaluation of diplomas.
