INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE AND EVENTS
International Department of Tashkent State University of Oriental Studies regularly conducts spiritual and educational events in cooperation with faculties and departments of the university. As guests, members invited to the event were as juries, lecturers from embassies, foreign and educational organizations.
January 10, 2020 at Tashkent State Institute of Oriental Studies was celebrated the International Mother Language Day named as “Matribhasha Diwas”, in cooperation with the Embassy of India in Uzbekistan, and the Lal Bahadur Shastri Centre for Indian Culture.
The event attendees and guests were Mr. Santosh Kumar Jah, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of India to Uzbekistan, Prof. Chandra Shehar the Director of the Lal Bahadur Shastri Centre for Indian Culture in Uzbekistan, pupils of the secondary school No. 24, TSIOS staff, Yunusabad Academic Lyceum under TSIOS, as well as Indian language teachers and students of the University of World Languages.
The Ambassador presented books to Quiz Winners at the end of the event and also thanked the administration of the Institute and its staff for the great work being done today to develop the Indian language.
During the speech, the rector of TSIOS G.Rixsieva said that the relations between Uzbekistan and the Republic of India are strengthening in various fields, especially the Institute has great plans for further development of Indian studies in the field of education. Moreover, she expressed hope to deepen and expand the cooperation between Institute’s staff and Indian friends in implementing these plans.
The event went in a high-spirited, lively atmosphere filled with cultural performances prepared by students and pupils.
January 15-17, 2020 at the Tashkent State Institute of Oriental Studies the open lectures were given by Professor Onuma Takahiro of Tohuku Gakuin University. Particularly they were as follows: January 15, “Historical and cultural ties between Japan and Uzbekistan”; January 16, “History of Japan in the Middle Ages” and January 17, “Development of Japan in the period of Meiji”. The event was attended by professors, teachers and students of the departments of Japanese philology and Japanese history, politics and economics. All lectures took the form of open dialogue and Q&A. During the event students received detailed answers to their questions about the cultural ties between Japan and Uzbekistan, also about the history of Japan and its development. At the end of the lecture, on behalf of TSIOS Rector, Dean of the Faculty E. Matchanov presented a letter of appreciation to Professor Onuma Takahiro of Tohuk Gakuin University.
January 15, 2020 at Tashkent State Institut of Oriental Studies was conducted the third republican scientific and practical conference on the topic “Erasmus + International Credit Mobility: the role in improving the quality of education and scientific research in Uzbekistan”. The conference was attanded by Mr. Eduards Stiprais, the Head of the EU Delegation to Uzbekistan, Ms Aziza Abdurakhmanova, Coordinator of National Erasmus+ Office in Uzbekistan, students of bachelors and masters, doctoral candidates, professors and young independent researchers.
At the conference were introduced the principles of the Bologna Process and organisation of bilateral mobility in higher education within strengthening the process of its internationalization.
The conference was organized in cooperation with the Ministry of Higher and Secondary Special Education, National Erasmus + Office (NEO), National Team of Higher Education Experts (HERE) and TSIOS.
January 17, 2020 the Festival on “One destination, one road – where the dream has gone” was held at the People’s Friendship Palace. It was conducted in cooperation with the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Uzbekistan and Tashkent State Institute of Oriental Studies. The event was attended by students, cadets and school children studying Uzbek and Chinese languages. After the festival, Rector of TSIOS Gulchekhra Rixsieva and Mr. Jiang Yan, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People’s Republic of China to Uzbekistan shared their views on the festival and expressed gratitude each other for working in close partnership
January, 27, 2020 at the Faculty of Korean Studies were organized “Tandem” classes on the initiative of the Rector of Tashkent State Institute of Oriental Studies, G. Rixsieva and S. Usmanova, Dean of the Faculty of Korean Studies. The very innovative course is attended by 7 students from Hankuk University of Foreign Studies of the Republic of Korea and also 7 students studying on joint programs of the Faculty of Korean Studies Sangmyong and Kyungdong. So, the course participants are in total 14 students.
January 31, 2020 the Confucius Institute at the Tashkent State Institute of Oriental Studies conducted a ceremony of handing over books presented by the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in the Republic of Uzbekistan.
The ceremony was attended by the Rector of TSIOS, Gulchekhra Rixsieva, Mr. Zhang Wanchuan, advisor to the Embassy of China in Tashkent, Rakhmatulla Nazarov, Director of the SCO centre for public diplomacy in Uzbekistan, Saodat Nasirova, Director of the Confucius Institute at TSIOS and director of the Confucius Institute in Samarkand. TSIOS and Confucius Institute were presented more than 50 books and journals which were targeted at familiarizing professionals and wide range of readers with historical, philosophical and cultural heritage of China.
Representatives of TSIOS, the Chinese Embassy in Uzbekistan, The Shanghai Cooperation Organization Center and Confucius Institute expressed willingness to continue fruitful cooperation in studying the rich historical and cultural heritage of Uzbek and Chinese folks.
February 4, 2019 the delegation of Foreign Turks and Ethnic Societies of the Republic of Turkey visited Tashkent State Institute of Oriental Studies. The meeting was held at the Palace of Culture of TSIOS. At the meeting, the Vice-Rector for International Cooperation of Tashkent State Institute of International Relations, E. Mahmudov gave a speech and expressed the gratitude for the visit. The guests informed the undergraduate and masters students, attending this event at the Culture Palace of TSIOS about the opportunities to study at prestigious higher education institutions in Turkey within “Turkish Grants” programs. It was mentioned that “Turkish Grants” program is divided into bachelor‘s and master’s degrees in all fields of study and doctoral studies as well. At this stage, the guests provided information about the grant requirements.
February 5, 2020 at the Tashkent State Institute of Oriental Studies were conducted an event titled “The power uniting people and countries” within the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan and the Embassy of Japan in Uzbekistan and the Association of Japanese Language Teachers in Uzbekistan.
The event was attended by the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Uzbekistan Yoshinori Fujiyama. Tokhtamirzaeva Mashkurakhon, a PhD student of Tokyo University of Foreign Studies, presented a report on the topic of the event.
February 11-13, 2020 within the aim to attract foreign professors to the higher education system and implement measures to improve the quality of education, the Faculty of “Foreign Economics and Politics” of TSIOS invited to the Department of “Economics of the Far East and South Asia”, the professor Shahid Tasleem of the University of Jamia Millia Islamia in India, ranking at one of the top 1000 universities in the world. At the event, Dr. Shahid Tasleem gave a speech on the modern education system and the peculiarities of the Indian education system.
In order to attract the expatriates to the higher education system and ensure the implementation of the task set in the decree of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan “On Approval of the Concept of Development of Higher Education in the Republic of Uzbekistan until 2030” numbered UP-5847, dated from February 11-13, 2020 the Faculty of “Foreign Economics and Politics” of TSIOS invited to the Department of “Economy of the Far East and South Asian”, Professor of Yongnam University, one of the 1,000 best universities in the world, Alisher Tokhirovich Dedakhanov.
Professor Alisher Dedakhanov organised seminar-trainings for professors and teachers on research methodology and the possibilities of publishing research results in the international database titled “Web of Science”. Moreover, targeting on students’ aims he organized workshops on customer engagement, management skills, organizational strategy and content through the creation of a convincing and effective text.
February 13, 2020 at the Faculty of Japanese Studies of the Tashkent State Institute of Oriental Studies was organized a scientific seminar and lectures on “Japanese writing system” for the 2nd and 4th year students by Professor Yuriko Sunakawa from the University of Tsukuba of Japan. The peculiarities of the use of writing in Japanese society were interpreted on the basis of interesting examples. Students were deeply impressed on hearing about the influence of the Chinese language on the Japanese script, and the information about the change of the scope of this influence depending on the demand of the period. The students were interested in the high impact of the image on the person. All students received answers to their questions.
February 20, 2020 at the Palace of Culture of Tashkent State Institute of Oriental Studies among students of the Faculty of Japanese Studies was held the 29th annual competition on “The art of public speaking in Japanese”. In the competition, 18 students showed how fluently and accurately can speak Japanese on topics of their choice. The jury members of the competition were Yamasaki Noriko and Shinkoi Hidehiro from the Uzbek-Japanese Center, Imamura Eiichi from the Uzbek-Nagoya Center, and Nishizaka Shohei from the Law University of Uzbekistan. The event was organized in high spirits. At the end of the competition, the winners of the first, second and third places obtained tickets to the national level of the competition “The art of public speaking in Japanese”.
During the period from February 8 to March 4, 2020 Shiraz Khan, a lecturer of Jamia Millia Islamia University in India, one of the world’s top 1000 universities, invited to the Department of “Economics of the Far East and South Asia” that had been organized by the Faculty of “Foreign Economics and Politics” of Tashkent State Institute of Oriental Studies. She gave lectures and practical classes on the Economics of India, Business and Entrepreneurship in India. Shiraz Khan is the lecturer of Jamia Millia Islamia University in India. Shiraz Khan also organised seminars and training sessions for teachers on “The higher education system in India” and about “Improving the education system in Uzbekistan”.
During the period from February 3 to April 16, 2020 Jaimee Comstock-Skipp came to Tashkent State Institute of Oriental Studies from Leiden University (Netherlands), one of the top 500 universities in the world, for a 3-month internship to teach the second and third course Persian-English group students from the Faculty of Oriental Philology. She gave master classes in Persian and English on a number of topics, such as “Miniature arts of the Shaybanid period in Asia”, “Bukhara School in miniature art of the Shaybanid Dynasty”. This seminar-training, which is designed for 20 hours of lessons, first of all, raises the worldview of our students. In addition, it creates conditions for them to study the current trends in science at the world’s leading universities.
The Director of the Indian Cultural Center named after Lal Bahodur Shastri Mr. Chandra Shekhar visited TSIOS on March 2, 2020.During the meeting with a teaching staff of “South and Southeast Asian languages” department the director gifted e-board costing $5,500 to the Center of Indian Studies named after Mahatma Gandi at the department on behalf of the Embassy of India in Uzbekistan. At the meeting Mr. Chandra Shekhar noted that TSIOS has got 70 years of experience in training Indian scholars and this will make a great contribution to strengthening interstate relations.
March 14, 2020 the 2nd stage of the “Days of Indonesia” was held in cooperation with the Embassy of Indonesia in Uzbekistan.
The event was attended by delegation members of the Embassy led by Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Indonesia Sunaryo Kartadinata. The event was attended by the leadership, faculty and students of the institute. During the event students demonstrated performances. There were competitions related to the level of knowledge of the Indonesian language, the demonstration of Indonesian national costumes, Indonesian music and national songs as well. The event was held in a high-spirited, lively atmosphere with cultural performances prepared by students.
The rector of the institute G.Rixsieva and the Ambassador Sunaryo Kartadinata awarded competition winners. Participants were awarded the certificates of honor.
