Speech text:

Good afternoon, dear Sergey Vladimirovich! Dear organizers and participants of the International Scientific Forum!

First of all, let me thank the leadership of St. Petersburg State University for the invitation to take part in this event.

Today, our cooperation with St Petersburg University is developing dynamically. Friendly, partnership ties have been established with the leadership of St Petersburg University, and the ties between scientists and teachers of our universities are growing stronger every day.

Despite the fact that interuniversity cooperation was established only a year ago, a lot of work has been done, even despite the pandemic. In particular, in May last year, an international video conference was successfully held on the impact of the coronavirus pandemic on the economies of the CIS countries. Later, academic economists from St Petersburg University, who took part in the conference, delivered a series of lectures on international taxation for our students. The lectures aroused great interest among the student youth.

In November last year, an international video conference was held jointly dedicated to the great work of world Turkology Kutadgu Bilig. Scientists of Turkic studies of St. Petersburg State University took an active part in the work of the conference. For which we are grateful to them.

On December 31 last year, an agreement was signed to launch a double degree program with St Petersburg University majoring in International Relations in the 2021-2022 academic year. It is gratifying to note that for our university this is the first double degree program with universities of the Russian Federation, and for St. Petersburg State University this is the first such program with universities of the post-Soviet countries. This, in turn, opens up new opportunities not only for students of both universities to gain knowledge, but will also contribute to the scientific integration of student youth in our countries.

Another very important event took place this year. Thus, in January of this year, a Decree of the President of Uzbekistan was signed on the opening of a branch of St. Petersburg State University in Tashkent, which will specialize in oriental studies and biomedicine. This will be the first branch of St Petersburg University outside of Russia. Our university also took an active part in the study of this issue, and we look forward to further close cooperation with the branch in the development of oriental studies.

Today’s scientific forum is dedicated to an urgent problem – the relationship of the Safavid state with the Russian Kingdom. Today, the reports of scholars and historians of Uzbekistan dedicated to the relationship between the Safavid state and the Bukhara and Khiva khanates will be heard.

In recent years, relations between Uzbekistan and Iran have also been rapidly developing. Promising joint projects are being implemented, including in the fields of science and education. Therefore, it is very important to study the history of relations between our countries.

I wish the organizers of the forum, the leadership of St. Petersburg State University and all its participants fruitful joint work, purposeful cooperation and success!
