Department of “Western languages”

The Department of Western European Languages was created in 1991, shortly after the separation of the Faculty of Oriental Studies from what is now the Mirzo Ulugbek National University of Uzbekistan. The Department of Western European Languages, which was part of the Faculty of History and Philosophy, taught English, German, and French languages at the faculties of History and Philosophy, Korean Studies, Sinology, and Economics and Politics of Foreign Countries.

The previous Department of Western European Languages has continued to function under the name Department of Western Languages since June 1, 2020, as part of the newly established Faculty of Turkology at Tashkent State University of Oriental Studies.

In 2024, as a result of optimization, transformation and internationalization carried out at the Tashkent State University of Oriental Studies, the Department of Western Languages became part of the newly formed Faculty of Applied Sciences.

Two new educational directions have been implemented by the department in the 2024-2025 academic year: 60110900-Foreign Language and Literature: English (Bachelor’s degree) and 70110901-Foreign Language and Literature (English) (Master’s degree).

Currently, the department employs 40 individuals, including 4 associate professors, 18 senior teachers, 10 teachers, and 8 assistant-teachers.
