Department history

The Department of History and Anthropology of Eastern Countries is part of the Faculty of Eastern Civilization and History of the Tashkent State University of Oriental Studies.  The Department carries out activities in the sphere of introduction of new systems of education on the basis of ideas of the Law «On Education» and «National Program of Education», bringing qualification of personnel up to world standards, regular education and scientific dialogue with the international scientific community. The creation and exchange of experience, in particular the expansion and deepening of scientific research in the field of history, culture and politics of peace, are also the tasks of the Chair.

The Department was created with the purpose of giving the students in depth knowledge on history, socio-political and state organization, religion, historical geography, historical sources and anthropology of the countries of the East in selected specialties. The Department of History of Eastern Countries and Problems of Modernity was first established in 1946 under the name «History of Eastern Countries». During the work of the department many Orientalists were trained – scientists famous not only in our country, but also abroad. In particular, academics – N.Baratov, B.Akhmedov, A.Mukhammadzhanov, professors – T.Ghyasov, M.Bobokhoodzhev, M.Nishanov, M.Kutina, A.Khodjayev, T.Sattarov, A.Hasanov, S.Inogamov, Z. Munavvarov, R. Kadyrov, R. Kasimov.

The Department currently has 2 Doctors of Science, 7 Professors, 7 Candidates of Science, Associate Professors, 2 Candidates of Science, Senior Lecturers, 1 Senior Lecturer and 6 Trainee Lecturers. Their average academic experience is 18 years.

The Department conducts research in the field of history of socio-economic and political development of the East. The results of the study are published in the form of monographs, scientific brochures, textbooks and teaching aids, which are made available to professional historians and students.

Teachers and scientific staff of the Department actively participate in the preparation of doctoral theses and prepare doctoral theses within the framework of research activities.
