Open lectures from teachers from Tashkent State University of Oriental Studies

In order to organize of education outreach activities beyond campus in the direction of “SDG 4: Quality education” according to the 17 Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations, 2 professors of TSUOS visited the city of St. Petersburg, Russian Federation. The special topic of the first lecture is “Usin – the concept of the five elements in Chinese linguistics”.

This lecture is devoted to the influence of Usin philosophy on the etymology and semantics of some words in Chinese. The peculiarity of the lecture lies in finding the interaction of philosophy and linguistics, the influence of the five elements on term formation, and the history of the emergence of the theory of the five elements of Usin. This concept has a rather complicated interpretation, which is an Eastern understanding of the basic law of struggle and the unity of contradictions. The interaction of these principles gives rise to five elements: fire, metal, earth, water, and wood. This concept is based on the interaction of these elements that create the whole world, including Man. Surprisingly, this concept is still fundamental not only in philosophy, but also in Chinese medicine, martial arts, gymnastics, cooking, and linguistics. This information will be useful in translations in order to understand the origin of words for their correct interpretation and transmission in the native language.

The special topic of the second lecture is Features of building a noun in Chinese. This lecture is devoted to the study of the peculiarities of the formation of nouns in Chinese. The peculiarity of the lecture is to find new ways of constructing nouns with the help of affixes, and suffixes, it also touches upon the ways of constructing words through reduplication and transposition. The report presents constructions with affixal morphemes, on the basis of which nouns are formed, the lexical features of each of the suffixes are revealed, new constructions are revealed, on the basis of which new nouns are formed, the lexical meanings of suffixes are analyzed. This information will be useful in translations in order to understand the origin of words for their correct interpretation and transmission in the native language.
